Jaakko Anttonen is Eridomic's new Controller

21 November 2011

Stora Enso's subsidiary, Eridomic, has been reinforced with the appointment of Jaakko Anttonen, MSc (For.) and MSc (Econ.), as the company's Controller. Jaakko took up his new post on 26 September 2011, and his tasks include monthly and quarterly reporting, project estimates, various administrative development projects and other financial administration duties.

Jaakko joins Eridomic from the packaging company Amcor Flexibles Finland Oy, where he served as Chief Accountant, primarily handling financial accounting tasks. He has worked at, among other companies, UPM Raflatac as Senior Analyst, Business Control, in management accounting positions.

Jaakko is from the town of Rantsila, near Oulu, and currently lives in Tampere, from where he commutes to his workplace in Pälkäne. He has a degree in economics and business administration, with a major in accounting, from the University of Oulu. In addition to his focus on financial subjects, Jaakko also studied forestry at the University of Joensuu, where he majored in forest and wood technology. His interest in forest industry and the forestry sector stems from his time spent in the countryside during his childhood and adolescence, which is also the reason why many of his hobbies are related to the outdoors and the forest.

Jaakko anticipates that his new post will be interesting and at the same time that it will expand his knowledge and skills in both financial administration and forest industry. Jaakko is especially fascinated by the analytical and logical aspects of accounting and working with numbers and their underlying issues.

Finnish Nature Centre Haltia - the first public building in Finland to be built using CLT elements

8 September 2011

NuuksioThe Finnish Nature Centre Haltia, to be completed by the end of 2012 in Nuuksio National Park in Espoo and opening to the public in early 2013, will launch a new era in wood-based construction in Finland. The nature centre will be the first public building in Finland to make use of CLT elements in its construction.

Stora Enso Wood Products and its subsidiary, Eridomic Oy, will supply all of the above-ground supporting structures for the nature centre, which will showcase Finland's biodiversity. The 5,200-m² delivery includes CLT elements for the exterior and partition walls and for the intermediate floors, as well as glue-laminated joists and roof elements. YIT is the main building contractor.

Cross-laminated timber boards were chosen for the supporting structures of the Haltia nature centre already in the planning stage, as the goal is to create the least burden on the environment. At Haltia, wood is a natural part of the overall concept, in which a holistic approach to the principles of sustainable construction is taken.

"In addition to their high quality, the advantages of ready-to-install and dimensionally accurate CLT elements are their time-saving installation and cost-effectiveness. The structures are airtight, which guarantees energy efficiency and thus an even more ecological end result," says Hannu Kasurinen, EVP, Stora Enso Wood Products.

"Our solution offers customers not only considerable environmental value, but also the opportunity to begin important work stages in the building's interior, such as floor casting, much sooner," he adds.

Construction on the long-anticipated Finnish Nature Centre Haltia, featuring Finland's natural landscape, will be in full swing in the autumn in Espoo's Nuuksio National Park. The nature centre will be run by Metsähallitus's Natural Heritage Services and its goal will be to bring visitors in contact with nature - as reflected in the choice of technical construction.

The Haltia centre is also one of Espoo's contributions to the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 initiative.

Eridomic to supply roof elements for new IKEA store in Kuopio

8 September 2011

Eridomic Oy, part of Stora Enso's Wood Products business area, has received a major order from Peab Oy, the contractor for a new IKEA store to be built in Kuopio. Eridomic will design, deliver and install a total of 25,000 m2 of solid wood roof elements for the chain store, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2012. Deliveries will start in September 2011.

"The large elements are built at the factory, which enables quick installation at the construction site. The roof covering is attached to the top of the CLT roof elements at the factory and sealed at the construction site in connection with the installation of the elements, resulting in a watertight roof," explains IKEA Real Estate Oy's Construction Manager, Hasse Lillkull.

According to Lillkull, the key criteria for choosing Eridomic's massive wood elements for IKEA's roof solution were, in addition to quality, the speed of construction and cost efficiency.

Eridomic's dimensionally accurate and installation-ready roof elements contain, among other things, the surface material of the ceiling, which speeds up construction right up to the roof covering phase.

The new IKEA, located in the Matkus area of Kuopio, is the fifth to be opened in Finland. The 33,600 m² interior decorating store will employ 250 people once completed. The IKEA and a commercial centre to be opened adjacent to the store are expected to attract 5 million visitors annually.

The IKEA in Kuopio was designed by Parviainen Architects Ltd.

Production facility extension commissioned in Pälkäne

26 August 2011

Eridomic has responded to the increasing demand for wood elements by extending its production facilities. The new extension was introduced in August, and its 2,200 square metres mark a major increase in the plant's former production space of 4,200 square metres.

"The increasing demand for wall and roof elements, owing to the upswing in construction activity, showed us early on this year that we need to increase our capacity and, consequently, build new production space. We recently added new shifts in production, and the number of installation teams has also been increased", says Matti Mikkola, Eridomic's Managing Director and SVP, Building Solutions, Stora Enso Wood Products.

Stora Enso acquired Eridomic at the end of 2010. In future, the company will specialise in large wall and roof elements and in bringing a larger range of cost-efficient total solutions to the construction markets.

Manufactured at Stora Enso Wood Products' Austrian unit, CLT (cross laminated timber) boards with their high structural strength are a novelty in Finland. The boards are processed into ready-to-install elements according to customer's plans. The elements come equipped with door and window openings as well as with insulation and, if necessary, exterior cladding. The first CLT elements were delivered in Finland in June.

Eridomic continues as the leading supplier of wood element solutions

2 May 2011

Eridomic, the market leader in large wood elements, launched its new website, which now presents an even wider service offering. Contributing to the change and the growth in the product range is a change in ownership, with Eridomic's business transferring to the ownership of Stora Enso in late 2010.

The family company, founded in 1994, will bring, as a new solution, multistorey wood construction to the market in co-operation with its parent company, Stora Enso's Wood Products division, as well as new massive-structure solutions based on Stora Enso's CLT boards.

The cross-laminated massive wood products, i.e. CLT boards and elements, are especially suited for urban multistorey construction and will introduce new opportunities to Eridomic's customers for cost-efficient and sustainable building.

Through photographs and a few video clips on its website, Eridomic presents examples of demanding public construction projects made possible through the use of, for example, factory-manufactured and cost-competitive large wood elements in roof and wall structures.

"Our goal was to design a clear and easy-to-navigate website for construction professionals that contains a wide range of information on cost-efficient solutions for building with wood, without any extra gimmicks or distractions," explains Anne-Maarit Sepling, Marketing Communications Manager with Stora Enso Wood Products.

Despite the change of ownership, Eridomic's business in Pälkäne will continue to function as an independent unit. Eridomic's familiar experts will serve the company's broad customer base, which includes construction businesses, municipal and urban developers, as well as architects and designers working in large- and small-scale wood construction projects.

Solutions that improve the quality of construction, large wood elements that speed up practical construction and products for infrastructure construction will continue to be the focus of the renewed Eridomic's solid core know-how.
